Thrifting is my life, from ugly holiday sweaters to my vintage glassware collection to a majority of the furniture that I’ve flipped in my home. Nothing makes me happier than saying “Thanks, It’s vintage!” Over the course of the last 15 years of living in Los Angeles, I’ve searched for the best, highest quality thrift shops. Come with me as we travel through LA to find those twice nice items that we love getting to brag about!
Bridge Thrift – Eagle Rock – @bridgethriftglassellpark
Formally known as L.A. Road Thrift, Bridge Thrift is batting 100! With easy street parking, an incredible selection of mugs and unique china sets, and its killer retro jackets. Plus, it isn’t terribly large making it impossible to be overwhelmed by the size. Added bonus? All clothing comes in sizes higher than a size 2! You know the Beverly Hills Goodwill could NEVER! Only con? No dressing room, so be sure to know your size and what types of style looks good on you!
The Left Bank – Frogtown – @theleftbankla
With quality items that are appropriately priced to not break your budget, The Left Bank is practically perfect in every way. Where they really shine is during their theme weekends. With fun concepts like Practical Magic (90’s vibes), Earth and Sea, La Dolce Vita, and the adorable winter The City Girls collection. The Left Bank is high quality clothing that fits right in to your criterion wardrobe. With a friendly, yet honest staff, who will genuinely tell you if something looks good on your or not. Keep a weather eye open for those special release events or shop daily to find eccentric, yet truly timeless pieces.
Dresscue – Atwater Village – @dresscue.la
Whenever I am manifesting a new item of clothing, from my rhinestone ankle boots to the hot pink Barbie-esque 80’s jumpsuit I wore for my 20th high school reunion, Dresscue somehow magically hits the mark every single time. Acting as a hub for those of us with good taste who are looking to make some money off of our quality wardrobe, $99 a week gets you a rack to sell your clothing. This includes the stylists who will help you price and organize your items, and you can add or take items away as much as you like ensuring that the store is not only style inclusive, but size inclusive as well.
Supergoodie – Silverlake – @supergoodieshop
Lynette and her amazing team of stylists make every person feel welcome. When you walk in, you are treated with such care, it’s like a real life Barbie Fashion Show! I’ve never been able to find a jumpsuit I like, and now I own three. Supergoodie is my highest brag of “I found it first” during the inaugural week of opening so long ago. Every time I go, I find something that has been waiting just for me.
The Plus Bus – Highland Park – @ThePlusBus
My first visit was during a pop-up event in Smorgasburg in DTLA, The Plus Bus is one of the only stores in LA that specializes in plus size clothing, size 12 and up! They have so many gorgeous finds and some of the best accessories I’ve ever seen. As a girl who loves solid headband, I was in HEAVEN! They have some of the nicest staff ensuring that every woman can look stunning and beautiful.
Berda Paradise – Silverlake – @berdaparadisethriftstore
Wanna find some funky stuff and support the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic? Berda Paradise comes through. During my most recent visit I discovered vintage Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle bedding, five incredible vintage Halloween sweaters, and multiple old copies of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Everything a girl could ask for! Though small, this store reminds me of rummaging through my grandmother’s closet as a girl and smelling things of long ago. Prices are fantastically reasonable and with the holidays over, this makes a great place to donate that special White Elephant/Yankee Swap gift that you got got stuck with from your boss!
King Richard’s Antique Vintage Center – Whittier – @kingrichardsantiquecenter
King Richard’s is HUGE and worth the drive! The furniture alone makes me want to redecorate my entire house with a hard 80’s Miami Vice vibe. Perfect for hipsters and collectors alike, clothing is limited here, but an amazing grid system of knick knacks and glassware and painted mallards, oh my! Makes the trip worth it! King Richard’s goes on and on and on, until you’ve found something special to bring home to keep forever. Plus, they have a huge parking lot that is completely FREE!*
Timeless Treasures Ticktocker – Culver City
TTT fulfilled a childhood fantasy of mine the first time I entered. I found the ONE board game I could never ask my parents for because even in the 80’s, Mouse Trap was too expensive. But there it was, sitting on the shelf with all the original pieces, for only $3.00. I almost died. This was one of those magical thrifting trips where everything my friend and I had been talking about prior was there. A copy of “The Shadow of the Wind”, IT WAS THERE. A perfectly cozy sweater for my friend’s upcoming East Coast trip. ALSO THERE! All you have to do is speak what you desire into existence three times, and Timeless Treasures Ticktocker will have it. Plus, it has a separate room for all the secondhand books! Pure magic.
