Dogs have the ability to snap us out of any sort of bad mood, so they deserve the best when it comes to dining out? While I may not have a canine of my own, I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by several amazing dogs, and I’ve found some awesome pet friendly places to hang with my four legged nieces and nephews.
Idle Hour – North Hollywood – @idlehour
Historical and ultra cute, the Idle Hour back patio is truly meant for the dogs. With water bowls aplenty, this is the place to bark and be seen in the valley. Dating back to 1941, Idle Hour has a fantastic menu for both brunch and dinner. Snag the tempura green bean fries, a homeboy bakery pretzel, your drink of choice (I’m a fan of the Drunken Elephant Theory) and sit back and chillax. It’s just good, friendly vibes.
The Rose – Venice – @therosevenice
You want patios? The Rose in Venice has ALL the patios! Streetfront, on the side, and of course a multi-layered tier in the back with plenty of shady trees for your beloved pet to lay out and snooze while you enjoy their buttermilk biscuits for brunch. They even have the option for Gluten Free Pizza Dough, ensuring cheesy goodness for all who wish to indulge. Beware the Bacon Wrapped Duck Liver Pate, even the best most “good boy/girl” dogs will reduce to begging for a bite.
Big Bar – Los Feliz – @bigbaralcove
Hot summer patio fun was made here at Big Bar in Los Feliz. The exterior is so warm and welcoming with patches of grass for your dog to rest their belly on. With Happy Hour from 2-7, this is the afternoon spot to get some work done and indulge in their baked goods case. Salads, sandwiches, and everything in between, Big Bar is perfect for furry friends to meet up and tell those squirrels in the trees to get on outta here.
Momed – Atwater Village – @momed.la
This elegant outdoor space has everything, including my favorite hummus in LA. Momed, short for Modern Mediterranean, is the sort of fancy causal place that ensures everyone feels welcome. Come dressed up, come in jeans; just promise that you’ll order the Mezze Trio. Avocado hummus, roasted garlic hummus, paired perfectly with tart tzatziki and served with melt in your mouth pita bread. Visit on the weekends for brunch and don’t miss their delightful smoked salmon flatbread or famous smoked bacon steak with walnut dukkah.
Joan’s on Third – Beverly Grove – @joansonthird
Lemon bars for the win! Can your dog have one? Absolutely not. But Joan’s on Third has an effortlessly easy vibe that is sure to make you and your pooch relaxed as you dig into their flavorsome salads. Essential LA dining, Joan’s on Third is always ready with cheeses and meats to take home to curate your own charcuterie board. From breakfast all day to their terrific tuna melt; this is the perfect place to take a break after a nice long W-A-L-K.
Boozehounds – Palm Springs – @boozehoundsps
Just a hop, skip, and a jump away, Booze Hounds in Palm Springs is the Best in Show when it comes to taking your dog out on the town. With their own menu of pet safe food, Boozehounds also has everything a human owner could dream of! Brunch, happy hour, and an amazing adult beverage program with massive selections of beer and wine. Snag a Doggie TV dinner, beef meatloaf with dog safe gravy and assorted veggies, or a loaded sweet potato with whipped cream and ground chicken. For yourself, try the Thai Vegan Larb or the Galbi Braised Short Ribs and you won’t get sent to the dog house.
