Waffles, pancakes, bacon, and eggs, OH MY! So many possibilities and depending on how much time you have enjoy that leisurely brunch, Los Angeles has endless opportunities to enjoy the most important meal of the day. Set those alarms, get up early, throw on those soft pants, decide on scrambled or over easy, and let’s get to stacking those flapjacks!
Millie’s Cafe – Silverlake and Pasadena – @milliescafela
A classic no frills diner that has ANYTHING you could possibly ask for. Millie’s Cafe has some of the fastest service in town, without making you feel rushed. Their line to wait looks long and uninviting, but you’ll never be delayed for more than 20 minutes for your table. Wanna have an omelet the size of your face or a healthy side of egg whites? Millie’s Cafe has you covered. Their chilaquiles are to die for, and go ahead, treat yourself to one of their delectable milkshakes at 8am! You won’t regret it! Open from 8am – 3pm everyday except for Thanksgiving and Christmas, Millie’s Cafe is an essential add to your LA breakfast dining list.
More than Waffles – Encino – @morethanwaffles
Hidden away in Encino in the bottom floor of a strip mall that has a Michaels Crafts, MTW is the hidden gem of breakfast in the valley. Serving traditional Belgian style waffles with every topping you could ever imagine, MTW has the small town vibe you continue to come back to time and time again. Savory waffles like the Nut MultiGrain and sweet waffles like….well almost all of them, specifically the Love Waffle (dipped in Belgian chocolate!). The real star of MTW however, is the strawberry jam. It goes with EVERYTHING, pancakes, waffles, muffins, or hey, eat it straight from the ramekin. Live your life. And always, ALWAYS include the strawberry jam!
The Attic – Long Beach – @theatticonbroadway
Three words; Mac And Cheetos! This insane dish is one you would think doesn’t go together and then you take one bite and moments later, it’s gone. Cheese covered pasta and the subtle crunch of flamin hot cheetos, will set your soul on fire. Follow it up only with their biscuits and Sorghum butter or Cornbread (that takes 20 minutes to prepare and is 100% worth it). Next suck down their wide variety of Bloody Mary’s, specifically The Meaty Man, which comes with bacon and a mini short rib slider. You’ll be rolled home in a wheelbarrow by the time you’re done with this Southern inspired gem of a restaurant!
Jewel – Silverlake – @eatatjewel
Pure. Vegan. Magic. While the guy I was dating who introduced me to Jewel didn’t last, his recommendation sure did. Jewel is the perfect place to bring your non-vegan date to sway them into at least thinking about becoming vegan. Their carrot lox toast is truly inspired, smokey and savory with the perfect amount of cashew dill cream cheese. The Autumn Burrata, with fried artichoke hearts and the Meyer Lemon pancakes are luminous. And…don’t tell anyone but they do have real chicken eggs in case of a non-vegan emergency. Listen, we live in LA, try the vegan lifestyle on and see how it fits. With Jewel at the helm, I think you’ll love it!
Coral Tree Cafe – Brentwood & Encino – @coraltreecafe
A neighborhood classic, Coral Tree Cafe has been the pinnacle of healthy dining in a chill atmosphere since 2002. With its first location opening in Brentwood, followed by Encino, CTC, is your home away from home. From the fresh lox toast to the buttery pancakes to the exquisitely fresh farm salads, every choice here is a sure fire winner. Be sure to try the light and fresh banana latte, which is a fantastic alternative to adding simple syrup in your coffee!
Great White – Venice & Larchmont – @greatwhite
BANANA BREAD FOR THE WIN! Paired with the fresh honeycomb butter and maldon sea salt. *Insert Chef’s Kiss Here*. The chickpea scramble and ricotta hotcakes are divine for anyone looking to share something both savory and sweet! Their stunning patios and dining room are fantastic for those who want to be seen and also for those who are there to be in the moment and enjoy their delectable experience!
All hail, Jewel!! Glad that guy came in handy for *something*. It’s so good!! Millie’s is also rad! I love that More Than Waffles has like, a “speakeasy” vibe: in the bottom floor of a strip mall that has a Michaels Crafts, lol!!!
Great picks, Kate!! Always love your recs, boo!!!
Once again you have nailed the breakfast blog with amazing descriptions and delicious photos! Millie’s is truly scrumptious and their vegan bacon is delightful! I am definitely going to try the Love Waffle at More Than Waffles! Love reading your blog. You make it easy to try new places without being disappointed. Again, thanks for writing this blog.
Your blog is so good and the best part is your consistent writing. I agree, Millie’s is always the same, great, and consistently delicious. The service is outstanding and the shirts the servers wear are truly funny! The Great White has delicious fish tacos with mango salsa too!
Keep writing Kate. I need more places to visit in LA.
Thank you for the recommendations. For someone who just moved to LA, I need this blog.
